has winter gone? ...........to celebrate Christmas in temperatures of
double digits has been very strange and ‘deep and crisp and
even’ is only for Carols this year. Aconites glow with more
intensity each day so the patches of yellow grow larger. Daffodils push
yellow trumpets ever upwards, so an early season. Many people have
struggled with rain and more rain bringing misfortune and making life
very difficult. For us the ground is sodden and the sky is dismal, but
all the joys of seeing Snowdrops is near and green buds are quietly
nosing through. So here is our New 2016 List of Snowdrops, hopefully it
will be interesting for those who love to garden.
As usual our annual ‘Snowdrop Saturday will be held this year on
13 February 2016. On this day visitors are able to view the Snowdrop
Collection within the Garden, see examples of Snowdrops in a Pot and
Photograph Exhibition, meet & talk to Snowdrop Gardeners, enjoy a
welcome cup of tea or mug of St. Michael’s Soup and buy a
Snowdrop or two! In addition, at 11.00 am. a Guided Snowdrops Walk will
take place. Here a brief overview of Snowdrop identification will then
lead visitors on a short walk where interesting Snowdrops will be
pointed out and discussed in an informal tour. There will be a charge
of £5.00. There will be many Snowdrop occasions such as
‘Walks’ and ‘Garden Opens’ throughout the
country so see what is on in your local area.
Locally visit Welford Park in Berkshire, here Galanthus nivalis
‘en mass,’ in spendour, they are a wonderful sight, the
grounds are open throughout February (check the website.) On Thursday
25 February Welford Park will have it’s annual MacMillan Plant
