Fine leaves grow to form a fan shaped clump, gives wonderful golden winter
colour.

CAREX
The family of Sedges are from temperate and cold climates. Many, but not
all, are evergreen and the foliage colours are an abundance of rich
browns, olives and greens. Some are golden.

Clumps of shining, stiff, dark green leaves with a white edging. Its

Palm Leaf Sedge. Perfectly happy grown in shade, where it slowly forms a
clump.

Lush clumps of boldly marked green leaves with a central gold stripe, best
colour in light shade. Super to brighten a dull winter day.

Curious New Zealand sedge, unusual ochrous-yellow, turning green if grown
in shade, but in sun it is nearly orange. Rounded clump with narrow
arching leaves.

E.
Red Tussock Grass. Has narrow rolled leaves which form dense upright
clumps rich foxy red in colour. Seems to require plenty of water during
the growing season for best colouration.

Blue Wheat Grass. Has the most intense blue of all grasses and must be
grown in full sun.

D.
African Love Grass. Suitable choice for dry position, from sparse arching
clumps rise stems bearing very fine panicles from mid-summer. Most
attractive plant.
FESTUCA
Commonly referred to as the Fescue family, from temperate climates. Tuft
forming grasses with very fine green or silver needle like foliage. Young
plants show the best colouration, so regular division is a good idea.
Festucas should be grown in full sun and well-drained soil, if winter
drainage is poor they tend to die off.
FESTUCA AMETHYSTINA E.
Forms a dense clump of bluish green leaves, topped by attractive flower
spikes.

'BLAUGLUT' E. ('BLUE GLOW')
One of the most popular grasses we grow. It has a neat habit with short
upright feathery plumes from May onwards and its foliage is a super blue.

MAXIMA 'VARIEGATA' D.
Striped Mana Grass. One of most beautifully variegated grasses of all. The
emerging spring growth is pink, later it grows upwards with attractive
cream and green blunt tips. Happy growing on ordinary soils or in wetter
habitats, spreading roots.

MACRA 'AUREOLA' D
Super clump forming grass which slowly increases, yellow foliage with
green lining. Attractive flowing form.

Blue Oat Grass. Less intense blue than Elymus but more attractive growth
shape, has long arching seed heads and requires sun.

CYLINDRICA 'RUBRA' D.
Japanese Blood Grass. Its deep reddish-purple colour intensifies as the
season lengthens. Quite different and always attracts comment. Can be
slow.
LUZULA SYLVATICA 'AUREA' E.
A super splash of gold in the winter garden, grows happily in sun or
shade, best with some moisture.
LUZULA SYLVATICA 'MARGINATA' E.
Woodrush. Versatile plant as it tolerates varied growing conditions. The
glossy green leaves edged with white create good ground cover and it has
unusual bobbley flower spikes in spring.
MELICA NUTANS D.
Nodding Melic. Dainty plant with deep green leaves and beadlike flowers,
will grow in light shade.
MILIUM EFFUSUM 'AUREUM' D.
Golden Millet or Bowles Golden Sedge. Does best in lightly shaded places
with ordinary to moist soils, its pale yellow flower stems arch elegantly.
MISCANTHUS SINENSIS D.
Eulalia Grass. Most modern day cultivars are very free-flowering, tall
arching plumes are produced from mid summer onwards.

About 5 ft. and delicate form, rich flower colouration.

Neat non-invasive grass, straw coloured stems rise from the dense tuffet
of yellowish striped leaves.
NASSELLA TRICHOTOMA
D.
Extremely fine needle-like leaves, create a fountain shaped clump and a
mass of floating flower heads for many months. Plant in a dry place.
OPHIOPOGON PLANISCAPUS 'NIGRESCENS' E.
Member of Liliaceae family, has strap-like black foliage and its mauve
flowers produce black berries.
PENNISETUM ALOPECUROIODES D.
This Fountain Grass makes a rounded mound of good green foliage, its silky
flowers are like huge hairy caterpillars. It must have a hot, sunny place.

A reliable selection, producing its fluffy heads in late summer.
PENNISETUM SETACEUM 'RUBRUM'
Purple Fountain Grass. A really eye-catching grass with rich red foliage
and tall fluffy seed heads. Best grown in a container as it is NOT HARDY.

PECTINATA 'AUREO-MARGINATA' D.
Prairie Cord Grass. Long graceful ribbon-like foliage bearing a yellow
stripe. Nearly 2m. tall, best with some moisture and has an extensive root
run.

Pheasant Tail Grass. Shows a wealth of browns, amber and olive tones which
change with the season.
STIPA ARUNDINACEA 'GOLDEN HUE' S.E.
Its airy plumes are held on thin stems and the yellow tints are most
striking, particularly in the autumn.

D.
Korean Feather Reed Grass. Tall, upright panicles give late summer
interest. For a dry situation.

Giant Oat Grass, from Spain. Oat-like plumes age to a warm harvest gold on
2m. high stems. Very handsome.
STIPA OFFNERI D.
Best grown in full sun. It has very fine leaves from which rise tall
panicles in late summer.

Wiry fine green leaves, with frothy seed heads.
UNCINIA RUBRA E.
Red New Zealand Hook Sedge. Grows slowly forming a striking red clump.
Happy in not too dry a spot, may require some winter protection.
