Winter Days
have been so very wet and so very grey, it is all rather dismal, but
explore a bit and find the buds to cheer and to bring promise of better
to come. Amongst the puddles and soggy soil golden Aconites and
bright pink jewel like Cyclamen are growing every day so there is much
to encourage a wander out and about in this New Year of 2013.
Such celebrations happened last year. To see the Olympic Games unfold
in our small country it was a wonder. As well as the days of jubilation
for our Queen, wet again at times, but it didn’t matter. We are a
great nation and hope the goods times are not too few and far between
in this present year. We have much to look forward to and to raise our
spirits when we see the first patches of white Snowdrops and then
Spring is on its way.
Throughout the year we have regularly exhibit plants at The RHS. London
Flower Shows.Unfortunately these much loved events have been gradually
reduced in number and are now few and far between. This is a great pity
for all members of this Society and for anyone who has a love of
plants. This years first Society Show will be the February one so do
not miss it!. The dates to note are 19th & 20th February 2013.
Nothing
is more uplifting than walking up the steps and beholding the sights
and the smells which await you in the Hall. The early Shows are always
a boost to the spirit and will encourage us to garden with renewed
enthusiasm. As usual our annual ‘Snowdrop Day’ will take
place on the following Saturday (23rd February 2013.) Throughout the
country there will be many Snowdrop occasions such as
‘Walks’ and ‘Garden Opens’ so see what is on in
your local area.
On Monday 4 February 2013 we are holding an RHS Event - ‘February
Flowers’.
