The first week of January is nearing an end and this island of ours is covered in thick snow, something  most unusual . A white Christmas, again a rare occurrence and quite unforgettable. Everywhere is blanketed in whiteness and everything is slowed down or halted, it is all a bit unreal. These Arctic conditions are here for a while longer it would seem, so we play the waiting game which is all that can be done. Early Snowdrops were looking good Galanthus plicatus ’Three Ships’ was in full sailing glory for the days of Christmas. Many Snowdrop tips were coming up and one of the most elegant of the Elwesii Group – Galanthus elwesii ‘Mrs. Macnamara’ was standing beautifully.  But it is all on a chilly hold as these severe temperatures stop us in our tracks.

Throughout the year we have regularly exhibit plants at The RHS London Flower Shows. Unfortunately these much loved events have been gradually reduced in number and are now few and far between. This is a great pity for all members of this Society and for anyone who has a love of plants. This years first Society Show will be the February one so do not miss it! The dates to note are 16 & 17 February 2010. Nothing is more uplifting than walking up the steps and beholding the sights and the smells which await you in the Hall. The early Shows are always are boost to the spirit and will encourage us to garden with renewed enthusiasm.  As usual our annual ‘Snowdrop Day’ will take place on the following Saturday (20 February 2010.) Throughout the country there will be many Snowdrop occasions such as ‘Walks’ and ‘Garden Opens’ so see what is on in your local area.

On Monday 8 February 2010 we are holding an RHS Event -  ‘February Flowers’ this can be booked through the RHS.
