PENSTEMON
A large genus of North American plants, with Snapdragon-like flowers which
love sunny places and well-drained soils, they dislike winter wet. Flowers
are produced over a long period beginning in June and going on till the
first frosts. Some are for rock gardens and the many cultivars are ideal
for borders, with the later hardiness is varied and old growth should only
be cut-back in spring.

GARDEN CULTIVARS
'ALICE HINDLEY'
Large pale mauve flowers and white throat, tall and slender.
'APPLEBLOSSOM'
Mass of very pale pink flowers, over dense narrow foliage.

Forms a low flat bush, flowers of a purplish blue.
'CONNNIE’S PINK'
Bright rose-pink flowers, white throat with some penciling in the throat,
tall.
'COUNTESS OF DALKEITH'
A distinct combination of purple and white, the flowers are quite widely
flared.

Good tall red cultivar.
'EVELYN'
Slender pale purplish-pink flowers, smaller in stature than some.

One of the best, very hardy and always gives a super display of deep
carmine-red.

A super blue form, typically the flowers are small and sky blue.

Free flowering pink cultivar.

A cultivar which has the broadest, vivid scarlet flowers with a white
throat.

A distinctive two toned mauve-purple cultivar with dark, dense foliage.

Similar to P.'Evelyn', but deeper red purple flowers and small stature.
'WHITE BEDDER'
Synonymous with P.'Snowflake' and P.'Snowstorm', flowers white with
occasional hint of a pink flush.

A bushy plant with narrow leaves, strong growing and many tubular red
flowers for long periods.

Forms a clump of dense foliage and produces tall stems bearing a cluster
of small white flowers.

Fleshy, beetroot-red foliage and a mass of glistening white flowers on red
stems.
GLABER
Compact plant which produces its mauve-blue flowers very early in the
season. summer, has a spreading habit.
KUNTHII
Small and quite compact plant, with fine foliage. It has masses of
abundantly produced bright red flowers.
